Made from Scratch, With Love

Sometimes the end result seems simple. But true creators know it’s all about the details – the secret ingredients that make a final product something others will enjoy and remember for years to come. As an independent artist, Pearl is exploring the intricacies of her own journey and finding ways to present them to the world around her.

For most, her voice is reminiscent of Corinne Bailey Rae’s richness and style. Combine that with a love for clear, unprocessed instrumentation and arrive at her undeniably unique sound. Her heartfelt and handwritten song lyrics hold a depth of meaning that is a gift to those who listen. Of her organic growth as a singer/songwriter, Pearl remarked, “If I had to envision what ‘I love you’ sounds like, this is how I’d want it to sound…”

The southern native has expanded her world as a singer-songwriter in exciting ways despite moves to and from Chicago and newly planted roots in Atlanta. In early 2013, she shined as one half of an acoustic duo performing covers during the Common Ground Foundation gala – an event and organization founded by hip hop artist and Chicago native, Common. Ironically, Chi town’s Uncommon Ground venue was graced with Pearl’s presence months later, as she preceded fellow indie artist Joy Ike with a warm, intimate set of original songs. Her reach continues to expand across the US, having recently performed at the WiMN She Rocks Summer NAMM Showcase at the Listening Room Cafe in Nashville, TN where she shared her newest songs, including her latest single, Hello.

Of course, Pearl is not without a wealth of musical influences, ranging from ‘soul folk’ artist Lianne La Havas to the jazzy sounds of Melody Gardot. Similarly to those she admires, she knows the time and careful attention she puts into creating is not in vain. She intends for the music that results to become “something that commands the listener’s attention.”

From far away, her 5-foot-half-inch shell may not stand out in a crowd. But come in closer and you just might uncover the refined, polished details her Creator used to comprise, well, a Pearl.
